Call it intuition. Women definitely have it! Instinctively, we can recognize what works well and what does not work well in our homes. We want a home that reflects our tastes and interests. So guess who is the driving factor in home purchases and home remodeling?
As reported at the International Builders Show, “Women are the sole or primary decision makers in 91% of new home purchases and home remodeling decisions!” This is so spot on that there are actual companies scrambling trying to create a female-centric approach to home-building in order to capitalize on that reality. Taking a female-centric approach means designing and building homes from the woman’s perspective. IF you can find a contractor that wants to understand their buyer, you should realize that there will be a learning curve to this approach. Female contractors understand and incorporate what women are looking for in home design, as well as delight and excite them with innovative, memorable new design amenities. We understand that women use four primary “lenses” through which they evaluate the livability of a home.
1. Entertaining areas—will the home’s design accommodate and enhance socializing?
2. De-stressing areas—does the home present areas to relax and rejuvenate?
3. Storage areas (too often an afterthought) require adequate square footage, organization amenities such as closet systems, and should be located convenient to where they are needed.
4. Flexible areas- address today’s multi-tasking realities (rooms that serve multiple purposes) or are easily tailored to specific buyer preferences, i.e., modifying apair of secondary bedrooms to become an in-law suite withits own entertaining space.
While designing homes around women’s preferences is a no-brainer, sometimes this is still using too broad of a paint brush. We’ve discovered that there are four primary female home buyer personalities, with their own unique design and style preferences. How many contractors have taken the time to learn about their client? How many listen in order get to know their clients in order to deliver the ultimate solution for their lifestyle and personality with innovative & memorable amenities?
